A Brush Seal can work well over flat or irregular surfaces and stay completely flexible. Brush seals can be used in an infinite number of applications, but the main categories are listed below. The brush seal is extremely durable and versatile because of the many materials and sizes that are available for each application. We have stock seals ready for immediate shipment or custom seals can be made quickly for a unique application. Precision Brush Company has more machine capacity than any other domestic manufacturer and welcomes custom orders.

Weather seals Easy to mount
(Stock Weather Seals, Custom Weather Seals)
Weather Seals keep rain, wind, dust, sand, sleet, and snow as well as debris out of your building. However, they are most commonly used to minimize drafts. Air infiltration and leakage is a problem in most buildings, especially around overhead doors and loading docks. Pedestrian doors and conveyors can also be problem points that can require Precision Brush weather seals. Not only can cooled or heated air leak causing unnecessary utility bills, but drafts can also cause uncomfortable working conditions.
Air leakage problems are also compounded by what is commonly known as the “chimney” or “stack “ effect. Hot air rises and escapes through openings near the top of the building while cold air is drawn in through door gaps and openings near the bottom of the building. Depending on temperatures, air movement caused by the chimney effect can move up to 10 mph.
Precision Brush weather seals can stop 99% of air infiltration and can be up to 3 times as effective as vinyl seals, as the chart illustrates.

All doors require a clearance gap in order to work correctly. Unfortunately, this clearance gap also allows for air leakage and infiltration. Our brushes pay for themselves quickly by saving money on utility bills and also allow for a cleaner environment by requiring less energy to be produced.
Pedestrian door 3’ x 7’ with a 1/8” gap is equivalent to a 25.5 square inch hole
Overhead door 10’ x 10’ with a ¼” gap is equivalent to a 90 square inch hole

Fire Door Seals (UL logo) Easy to mount
(Stock Fire Door Seals, Custom Fire Door Seals)
All Precision Brush seals have been tested by Underwriters Laboratories and have been labeled safe for use on up to 3- hour fire doors. Precision Brush door seals also known as gasketing materials for fire doors are intended for installation on classified fire doors and/or listed fire door frames, as specified in their individual classification.
Fire door brush seal materials consist of a filament and a metal channel that is either mechanically secured or applied with pressure sensitive adhesive to the perimeter of listed fire door or frame. The seals can be applied either by the door or frame manufacturer or at the job and still be in compliance with UL10B.

Machine Guards Easy to mount
(Stock Machine Guards, Custom Machine Guards )
Brushes can be used to shield machine tool or woodworking chips, vapors and fumes, paint booth over spray, or sound. Precision Brush seals can also help as light seals for dark rooms or to seal gaps on conveyors belts and lead screws. They acan also seal where moving parts pass, such as a lever or an overhead conveyor. Precision Brush machine guards can also help to maintain dynamic pressure differential or enhance vacuum performance
Brushes that are used as machine guards are durable and highly effective in keeping out dust, dirt or machined chips while still allowing a full range of motion for moving components. Brushes have much better bristle memory than rubber or vinyl seals, which can break down quicker from abrasion and friction. Solids like rubber also can exert excess drag and/or wear on moving parts, while brushes allow for easy movement.
Our studies have shown that nylon brushes can last millions of cycles while increasing component life and reducing maintenance on equipment.

Dock Seals Easy to mount
(Stock Dock Seals, Custom Dock Seals)
Dock leveler need a 1 to 1” to 1-1/4” gap between the concrete and the leveler in order to work correctly. A standard Dock Leveler 6’ x 6’ with a 1-1/8” gap is equivalent to a 243 square inch hole in your building.
A dock leveler left unsealed will cause large quantities of air infiltration both in and out of your building costing unnecessary utility expenses and uncomfortable working environments. The gaps also allow in dust, dirt and pests who are attracted by the heat and light into your building.
Air leakage problems are also compounded by what is commonly known as the “chimney” or “stack “ effect. Hot air rises and escapes through openings near the top of the building while cold air is drawn in through dock levelers openings door gaps and near the bottom of the building. Depending on temperatures, air movement caused by the chimney effect can move up to 10 mph.
Precision Brush dock seals can stop 99% of air infiltration and can be up to 3 times as effective as vinyl seals.

Pest Control Seals Easy to mount
(Stock Pest Control Seals, Custom Pest Control Seals)
Keeping a pest free environment is important in any building, especially if the building is used in the food industry, such as a restaurant, a food warehouse or food processing plant.
Precision Brush Pest Control Seals around building openings can be an effective solution to keeping out pests such as Insects, Rodents, Birds and Bats. Pests can be attracted to buildings by heat, light or odors. Our brush seals can help to eliminate these attractions by conforming to irregular shapes around doors or other openings and are durable for a long use.
Our Pest Control Seals are considered the Food industry’s best Non-Chemical pest control. Many Fortune 500 food companies use brush seals worldwide. Our seals can also help to raise the sanitation rating for food processing plants and warehouses.

Aircraft Hanger Door Seals Easy to mount
(Stock Aircraft Hanger Door Seals, Custom Aircraft Hanger Door Seals)
In order for the large doors on Aircraft Hanger Doors to work properly they need to have a gap between the moving parts. Our Hanger door seals can minimize air infiltration and leakage by sealing these gaps with millions of individual bristles. The brush seals conform to irregularities better than any other style of seal and can quickly recover their cost by reducing utility bills.
We prefer to use a polypropylene filament when sealing Aircraft Hangar Doors. The large gaps require a longer brush filament which can quickly add up to higher expense. The polypropylene brushes are not only more economical than traditional nylon seals, but polypropylene is stiffer and can hold up better in longer lengths when compared to the same size nylon filament.
Our Aircraft Hanger Door Brush Seals can be combined with angled or straight holders as shown below.

Elevator Smoke Seals Easy to mount
(Custom Elevator Smoke Seals)
Elevator Smoke Seals are an effective way of limiting the transfer of smoke from an elevator shaft to the floors above. The Brush Seals conform to irregular surfaces and seal the gaps that are necessary for the moving parts of elevator doors to work correctly.
There are many different size elevator door openings and gaps so we recommend sizing each order to the particular job. Below is an illustration of commonly mounted elevator smoke seals.
